Monkshood

by Leonard M Hawkes

Its sight was pursuit,
Knowledge, elemental
Like lodgepole,

Yet not of dry hills,
But of the moist richness
Of the marsh.

Its urgent voice
Lingering longer in
The mind than frogs';

Calling elusively, wildly
To blue mountains
And beauty's truth.
