Sleep

by Richard Vince

If you lived next door to me,
You wouldn't have to find
Any of the obscure songs I've
Told you about...you would just
Come to my house and listen to them.

And you would be more convinced
Of my sincerity when I tell you
How beautiful you are, because
I wouldn't have based my
Judgement on a couple of fairly
Grainy photographs.

It's not like I need to see you
To know how beautiful you are
Anyway...I can always feel it.

It's right there in the way
Your words make me glow inside,
And the way you make me smile
So broadly that the muscles
Around my mouth ache.

Even your typing errors make me
Want to give you a big hug.

I really would gladly never
Sleep again if it meant that
I could talk with you forever,
Because your words wrap around
Me like a blanket of pure joy,
All soft and warm and heavenly.

I just hope you smile as much
As I do when we talk, and
Whenever I think of you.

In fact, I hope you're smiling
Right now, wherever you are
And whatever you're doing, because
I'll be smiling myself to sleep
Tonight, because of you.
