Teton (second posting) by Leonard M HawkesI passed through
Your park again today,
And spied you there above:
Icon of beauty,
Natural grace,
Erected of the gods.
But I came not
With child-like wonder,
Nor with the urgent
Passion of youth--
No gnawing hunger
To possess, to know;
For we have loved,
You, and your companions:
Your contours, your forms,
Your axillary verdure,
Your touch, texture, scent,
We know too well.
No, I come not as seducer,
Not with jaded searching eye,
But pass as Lover--
One who Knows--
Knows and carries
Your Beauty within his soul. 06/01/2002 Posted on 06/01/2002 Copyright © 2024 Leonard M Hawkes
