Cooling without the Sun by Ryan M EvonMoonlit streets cry out
To be pounded by wandering feet.
Chasing shadows shift underneath
The cold white street lights.
Darkened figures hush in stranger's
Presence. As cigarettes glow bright
Tucked in lips pursed in silence.
Light breeze dances with leaves
Against starlit skies to hold
The tree against an Earth,
Cooling without the sun.
Snapping sticks from predators
Out this night, stalking their prey.
Pairs of lights streak through
The straight breaks between
Sets of houses shadowed
At this late hour of two.
No one sees things this late,
Falling stars, rising danger,
Or falling tears of a poet walking alone 05/30/2002 Posted on 05/30/2002 Copyright © 2025 Ryan M Evon
