Farewell, My Love

by Jersey D Gibson

Desire,
it's in our life's blood.
On fire,
it burns us to move us.

Happiness,
it's the slave that works the machine.
Relentlessness,
it doesn't stop, it wants to feed.

War is Peace, and Peace doesn't exist.
Truth is Power, and that Power is lie.
Opinion is Knowledge, and Knowledge is pain.
So what do we have to gain?

Sorrow,
can not rear it's ugly head.
Tomorrow,
will not be a better day.

Rage,
misguided fury hurts us all.
Amazed,
by all we create and destroy.

Sex is Life, and Life is death.
Age is Wisdom, and Wisdom tells no secrets.
Love is Hatred, and Hatred is abundant.
So why do we continue to run it?

The Angel closes her eyes for the last time,
wishes she hadn't opened them for the first time.
We wish that she could take us away,
but we disgusted her, now we're here to stay.

Farewell, My Love

Farewell, My Beauty
the only thing that made me smile.

Farewell, My Hope
certainty is better than morality.
Pride is better than forgiveness.

Farewell, My Blue Blue Sky
there is no reason to fear hell.
When we're already in it.

Farewell, My Love

Author's Note: After I finished and submitted this poem, someone commented (on Poesie, prior poetry site I was on) how much this poem sounded like 1984, by George Orwell. I don't agree, but I like this poem anyhow.
