not (quite) myself

by Rachelle Howe

i don't feel
quite myself
tonight
(hearing the floorboards
scream at constant abuse
from six-sided assailants.)
lost
in the laughter, the blur
of an overhead fan and
paint climbing up
tri-colored pride.

snarling
teeth gnashed at words
of discouragement and lace...
show me where i am
(not the score)
in this superficial
(six-sided; snake eyed)
fray.

nothing can hurt
there is no pain
after all,
i don't feel
(quite myself)
tonight.
