In retrospect
it all seems very harmless--
selective memory
works in your favor--
I forget things very easily
when challenged
by your pensword
and a letter signed "love".

Still I am not yet
so drowned in blurry nostalgia
to forget the reality
of our emotional stock exchange
our teardrop token economy--
when we cashed in our
pails of tears for
a calm night of
quieter discontent.

We were never happy--
only in emotional debt
or barely breaking even.
