Lady Ellarain by Melina Raven Maness DieboldI'm a princess, dainty and fair with piercing grey eyes and flowing black hair I'm locked inside this, my top-tower lair Kept locked away, like a china doll Just so from virtue I will not fall Up here I'm so alone locked inside my cage of stone The wind blows in, chilling me to the bone As I sit here, in my makeshift oubliette Searching, remembering memories to forget At night I'm so lonely, stuck in my cell I cry out for release to no avail The corridors echo my desparate wail I beg to the gods for some grand relief and some haggard crone appears, to my disbelief With cackling, sour voice she tells me that she'll cast a spell on me and every night, when the moon is fat My torment will lessen, for I'll become a cat From the top of my ivy-choked tower I can descend at the midnight hour With feline form and an ache for true love I search for some other sad soul to befriend and belove Away from my tower, there's so much to be seen, not from above With padded-paws leaving footprints in the dirt I spot another so fair it makes my eyes hurt He is what I have dreamed of so long I have heard him from my tower, meowing his lonesome song How can a love so solid and pure be wrong? We meet face to face, and a nose-rub, a purr We become fervent lovers, in a sable entwine of fur Our wonderful trysts are awaited, on every full moon My lover's my only light amidst the dark gloom I count down the time til we'll be together, it's soon Maybe this time, I won't come back I'll stay with my lover, my rogue tomcat
