Unending: Six: The Newcomer

by Dana E Brossard

Looking down from his tower lookout, he observed the troop movements. An army larger then any the world had ever seen now marched against one man, him. Even with his vast knowledge and mastery of magic, he could not stop them. He could not summon enough demons, bring enough power to arm, for they would still roll over him. Deep down, he knew, the end was near. But they would pay dearly. Perhaps he could hold out long enough for the empires to mount a decent defense, he would take as many as possible. He began to summon forth his power, when the mass of dragons filled the sky, against one man...

Dragons as black as the night sky descended upon the swirling mass of darkness that was an army. Bolts of magic lit the sky as waves of arrows darkened it. Wielding more magic then he had touched in years, the First Wizard split the fabric of space pulling demons from unmentionable hells. He burnt reality to a cinder around him as he shifted in beings from another existance. Waves of flame and lightning poured from him down into the army below him. They were already begining to crack the tower. Magical traps burst and dragons fell...

It seemed as though years had passed. He slumped against the cold stone wall. Very few of the black dragons were still alive and all but one of his demons vanquished. He could hear them moving in the tower. Glancing outside, he noticed a single green dragon enter the fray. Odd, he didn't remember summoning a green. The door blew open as Darkness Mage Hunters swept in. The air rippled and a knight in green and white battle armor phased into existance. Cleaving through the hunters with a sword inscribed in emeralds he stood his ground against them. The First Wizard gated himself away as the newcomer bought him time with his life.

Father jumped as the First Wizard strode into his office. Then pointed at an open book, a detailed piece describing the wizards death, not five minutes before.
'You should not be here. How is it that you still live?'
