Percy'’s Girl

by Richard Vince

Although I have no idea of what was said,
I recall being fascinated by your words,
And waiting for days for you to reappear.

But you never did, and so I still wonder
Where you went. Or whether we've just
Managed to miss each other slightly
Over these past years. Either way,
I somehow miss you, even though I never
Knew you at all really.

Perhaps you went away to join
The love of your life, to share words
With him for eternity, and be paradise
For one another, just like you always
Knew was meant to happen, only you were
Born out of time and in the wrong place.

If that is where you are, then maybe
I will meet you one day, and you might
Very slightly remember me from back then.

Until then, I hope he is making you smile,
As I got the feeling that you were in
Need of some happiness. I am sure that
If you are together, he is proving to be
Just as wonderful as you always knew
He was, no matter what anyone else said,
Regardless of how well you knew him.
After all, sometimes you just know.

However, if I could talk with you
Just once before you leave, so I could
Know how you are and know you a little,
My mind could be at rest, and I could
Cease to wonder whether you decided
To make that journey to him.

I don't expect you to remember me,
Let alone read this, but if you do either,
Please let me know where you are
And whether you still belong
To the poet who stole your heart.
