Willow

by Richard Vince

You sit there, beautiful and peaceful
Like a willow tree…
But like the willow, you’re weeping…
I feel your tears, I feel the years
Time you spent wondering
Wandering, trying to find your way…
One day, you will know
That you never wasted the time you spent
Spent looking in the mirror…
Wondering who was looking back
And wondering why she didn’t turn away
When you turned away from her…
I’ve walked this road, you know
And now, here I am…
Asking if I can help you
To reach your destination

So SMILE…because someone loves you
I know I hardly know you
But I know you well enough to care
Maybe I know you better than you think…
Maybe I know you better than you do…
But I can be your angel…
If you need me to be
Maybe I am the man with the key…
To release you from your cage

…Or maybe I’m not.
Life is full of maybes
But maybe never exists in the past tense
So please let me help with your present
And your future…
But maybe I am wrong.
I can admit my mistakes…
But not if I don’t know about them
So if I am wrong…
Please let me know, so I can turn away
And leave you to find your own way
But I will always be here…
I will always care…
And I will always listen.

So, before you send me away
Into the night…
Smile for me
So that my memory of you
Can be a happy one…

Just remember this.
I will always be your friend
And I will always have ears to listen
And a hand to guide you.
