Addition and Subtraction

by Vikki Owens

Addition and
subtraction
for a girl like me,
tangled numbers
meaning nothing,
meaning EVERYTHING.

Here and there
a pound more
a pound less
Add a you,
remove a me...

I want to be with you,
I want to disappear

Inches added,
inches faded
divide myself.
Multiply
Multiply
dont
Multiply.

Addition and
subtraction
its easy.

You
plus
Me
minus
my body
divided by
our conflict
(divided by
my razors)
multiplied
by years and years
that we'd like
to keep loving
each other
(if the answer is
greater than zero)
equals...

I never was too good at math.

This is a bit of a knit, but the first couple of times you used "subtraction", you left out the "c". I wasn't sure if it was for artistic reasons until I saw it used again farther down with the "c". I liked that duality in the voice employed here.

I think that you're a fabulous mathematician. Well written. Wow.
