Choices

by James A Holt

*Bear in mind that this isn't really a poem but more of a philosophical question. All in all, I would like to hear from you and let me know what you would do.*

Asleep in bed from a hard days work
You have a dream consisting of you
Sitting in your chair whatching TV.

As you channel surf your screen splits
And shows two different images -
One side shows your significant other of many years whom you care about deeply
The other shows your true love
The one you love with all your
Heart and Soul.

What makes this dream so significant
Is that both get into a car accident
At exactly the same time.

You know where each of them are
And how far away-
Each being at equal
Distances from your home.

As you watch the collisions happen
You know immediatly that if nothing
Is done, both will surely die.

From your home, you can call for an Ambulance and run over to reach only one
Of the two.

The ambulance will take some time to get there so you would need to try and Help the One though you have little medical skills.

If you were to call the ambulance for one and then go to the other, both Would die, nor could you go to one then The other since the distance would be too great.

You sit there staring at the screen for Some time when you wake up.

However, you quickly realize that what You have dreamt is actually real and That as you are getting out of bed both Are suffering to the point of death.

The facts are clear,
The scenario is set,
The only thing to wait on is the Decision:
Who should be saved?
Who should die?
