Dream Wings

by Richard Vince

In my dreams, I grow wings
And use them to fly across the ocean
To where you are.

Unfortunately, imaginary wings
Are not strong enough to lift
Me off the ground, or transport
Me a quarter of the way
Around the world to find
The girl about whom
Fairytales are written.

So all I have for now
Are my dreams, to which
My eyes are impatient to get.

Maybe I will let me sleep
So I can drift into a world
Where you live next door to me,
And we can see each other
And hug each other every day.

Alternatively, I could
Lie awake while the Sun rises
And think of how wonderful
You are, and thank God
That I know you at all.

But all this makes me
Wish even harder that my
Dream wings were real.

Perhaps one day I will
Grow a real pair of wings,
And you can grow them too.
Then we can meet over the sea
And fly through the clouds
And chase rainbows together.

However, I won't search for
The rainbow's end...
Who needs gold
When they have you?
