The Town I Would Build

by Jane E Pearce

I'd build a town
among green hills,
with a river
for a neighbor,
where folks could rest
and play in peace
after a day of labor.

Main street would be treed,
not a mall in sight,
charming shops with wares
from nuts and bolts
to clothes that fit right,
and a mapled square
to chat day or night.

Music would infest
the town with tunes
that show no strife,
and people would dance
to the tempo of a simple life.
Children would be schooled in basics rare,
with no bullets rending the air.

Streets with green lawns,,
and snowmen when it's cold,
picket fences that frame homes
that hold people
that love one another,
and never get old,
who live forever, so it is told.

There would be a Mayor
who knows every face,
and listens how to improve the place.
There would be good resturants,
but no place to get booze,
and only ONE church for ALL-
Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims,
Christians, and Jews.
