Of all the ways this could have ended,
This was one I would never have dreamed of,
Though for a while I felt quite confident
That this would never end, and some
May say that it never even began.

However, if anyone tells you that it
Was never real, do not believe them.
To me, it was one of the most real
Episodes of my life to date,
One of the most wonderful dreams
For which I did not close my eyes.

I have now been contemplating it
For longer than it lasted,
And it looks like I will be
Writing about you for years to come.

Your lips that I will never kiss
Are still smiling in my mind's eye,
And I can still feel the glow
Of your face I will never caress,
But it is the magic in your eyes
That still makes me want to cry
Until my eyes no longer see.

Whether, in years to come, I will
Still remember you like this
Remains to be seen, but,
For the moment at least,
Your beauty still haunts me
As my eyes begin to close themselves
In readiness for the mean rest
I currently allow them.

I would like to take this opportunity
To thank you for living,
For appearing so briefly in my life,
And for touching my heart
So deeply that I can feel again.
