Toothpaste by Richard VinceSomething tells me that poor rinsing
Is going to keep me awake for a while,
Just like you have been doing
These past few nights.
To me, you are like the taste of mint:
No matter how hard I try,
I can never get it to leave my mouth,
So I stop eating until it fades away
But it still taints whatever I taste.
Tonight, like last night, I didn't try,
So it lingers strongly.
I feel it every time I swallow,
Every time I breathe, just like
I feel you every time I look at
Anyone, and every time
My heart beats.
Whenever I try to clean my teeth
They end up tasting of something else,
And I wonder why I still bother.
Rather like the aftertaste
You've left me with.
The memory of you etched on my heart,
The way my body aches for you,
And this cheesy poetry I churn out.
However, I might let this
Linger for a while. 04/05/2002 Posted on 04/09/2002 Copyright © 2024 Richard Vince
