To end each speech
He ever made,
This is the poem
That he would quote.
"Onward Ever,
Backward Never"
Etched itself
Into our minds.
Onward ever,
Backward never!
We heard it said
Ten thousand times.
"Onward Ever,
Backward Never"
Such poetry
Brought us to tears.
We could not run,
We could not hide,
It just kept ringing
In our ears.
"Onward Ever,
Backward Never"
He will never
Ever know,
To never hear
This poem again
How far onward
