Shocking
surprising
like a bolt of lightning

Piercing my thoughts
Impaling my psyche
sharp and painful

But a soothing liquid kiss
of soft and favored love
calms me
appeases me
Transports me to a safer realm
away from the false assumptions
and cruel intentions of reality
Suddenly I stand on a cold balcony
and I stare
at the pitiful creatures
scurrying about
worrying about the unimportant
attentive to the insignificant
Forsaking the things
the only things
that should really matter

But in that life
I too did not know

Luckily my life failed me
and I realized the truth

My death
My surprise
it's timing was impeccable
