Mawa

by Melina Raven Maness Diebold

A soft, widowed moon
serenaded by the owls
remembering the howls
of a desecrated warrior, now one with the earth
For deep within the forest
under a carousel of trees
and a blanket of the golden periwinkle sky
sleeps a wolf
a sweet innocent thing
slain by an uncaring fiend.
And this fallen angel
he rests
ceasing his midnight ballad
and he is remembered
for the joy
and the happiness
his life ensued
And in the hearts of those who knew him
He lives
and he remains immortal
Completing the foretold story
of injustice and glory
which shall one day coexist
Not today
Not yesterday
but perhaps
tomorrow
