Crush

by Melina Raven Maness Diebold

My mind is held hostage by his presence
Even at school he is my only thought
Instead of things like the square root of nine
My attention turns to him and is caught

With the passing of each unbearable day
The urge to kiss him grows harder to oppose
Just a mere mutter of a single word
And my helpless heart is exposed

His compassionate voice is some sort of fuel
Accelereating my daydreams of him and me
Unlocking the doors that usually remain locked
Unware he even possessed the key

Alas, he is unware of many things
Things that would make me blush if he knew
It's ironic that he doesn't realize
My subtle flirtations are his cue

His lively eyes stare blankly into space
Like an eye that blndly sees
His blank lips curl into a crooked smile
As if determined to tease

He enters a room I also occupy
and his presence demands my attention
My now enslaved soul obediently submits
and I briefly visit another dimension

I'm often in deep concentration
Recieving mute messages conveyed by his eyes
After what seems an eternity
I remain hypnotized

I love how the mahogany blends with blonde
and when his eyes are lost in contemplation
His solemn intelligence is overwhelming
though oblivious to my infatuation
