Addiction

by Melina Raven Maness Diebold

The blinding blanket of light
all around enshrouds me
The vibrant colors
remind me of my vacant life
Chemical flashes
and
artificial burst of neon hues
resounding throughout
my hollow body
If I had a family
I would not have turned to it
If I had a love to call my own
I would not have became it
If I had a stronger soul
I would not have died from it
One day
One morning
One fight
One scorning
One needle
One overdose
That is all it took
to take my life away
That is all it took
to put me here
deep in the heart, the soul,
the arms of death
