Motive of Death

by Melina Raven Maness Diebold

When I was so much younger
I couldn’t grasp the concept of death
I didn’t understand why Mommy cried
But now I understand
I join my father as he cries the same tears
That my mother did some ten odd years before
Together we mourn, share stories of times past,
And remember the faces of our loved ones
Joining each other in our sorrows
Helping ease the pain
Leading each other by the hand
Into the rest of our life
Creating memories to forever cherish
Perhaps this was the motive of death all along
