Fiesta, You and I

by Britt Zimmerman

Tracing your name on my back
with gentle fingertips
as we pass through
cobblestone streets

feel the burning of the sun
on my shoulders
and the wind quickly
hushing its sting
with cool breath

People are flying by
like seconds
yet minutes are
ticking away like years

waiting...
for the first touch
of your soft lips
for the stillness
of breath
that comes
when the sky turns pink
and the sun
is expired

I can see your eyes
in the calm blue waters
and your smile
in the banana trees

And the vibrant colors
of fiesta
touch my soul
and make me spin

Lets dance the flamenco!

I will wear the puffy off the shoulder shirt
and colorful flowing skirt
like they are second skin

and you will look handsome
in suit and sombrero

and we will kiss
beneath streamers
and paper lanterns
until dawn comes
breaking the celebration
but not the spirit of our love.
