i've been meaning to bring you flowers because i
hate the way you make stupid comments
or because you always
insist on being right
i've been meaning to get you roses because
everybody loves roses and it seems like
everybody loves you except for
me.
or i've been meaning to bring you irises
not that you don't have two of your own
stunning as always
or i've been meaning to bring you petals
from flowers
that died
a long time ago
because it would be
deep
and profound.
or something.
and you could sit and stare
and shake your head and smile
and be confused.
not that that's not what you've been doing

i've been meaning to bring you flowers
because you smile so bright
or irises because you
have your own way
or petals because
i miss the way you play the guitar
and maybe it's not deep
or profound.
just simple.
but anyways.
i never brought you anything, and
i'm sorry.
