Stones of Time

by Adrian Calhoun

Oh to be so beautiful,
and so strong.
To have stood for centuries,
weathering every storm.

The things you have seen,
all of the knowledge you must hold.
If only you were able speak,
a million tales to be told.

Within your walls,
the echoes of time past.
triumph, sadness,
love, and hate.

Your stones,
forever transforming a land.
Scarred by nature,
and by the battles of man.

Some lay badly in ruin,
mere shadows of their former glory.
Returning to the ground,
from which they came.

Other castles still stand tall.
Grand and elegantly,
they are graceful to the eyes.

All the while charming,
both,
to the souls of all who visit,
and to Scotland.
