Faulty Grey

by Leandra K Brossard

My eyes have seen many shades of grey,
My heart has watched the sun sinking away,
My soul takes joy in watching faces turn,
My blood sings fiercely, and soon begins to burn.
(and as I watch, I soon begin to see)
(that everyone despises you and me)
(they do no know, but they think they do)
(and so they turn to hating me and you)

As I watch them, they do not see me,
And I see them, and know that they're not free.
They think they wander, anywhere they will,
They do not see the boundaries on their will.
(though they may watch, they will never find)
(though they may seek, they'll always come up blind)
(of all the fools I ever thought I'd see)
(I never once thought they'd look so much like me)

I hide once more, just from my self,
I thought I'd lost those pieces of myself,
I saw you with me and thought that I was strong,
I never noticed, when everything went wrong.
(And so it's only now that I may know)
(All of the secrest that mortals ever sow)
(I might be mistaken, but I think I can see)
(Finally the faults for which you'd all forsaken me..)
