One Star Sky

by Meredith C Hartwell

I snuck out to gaze
at the one-star sky
through clouds parted
by your departure,
and I hear the
Red-Eye train whistle blowing
and the sun has hours to rise.
Tomorrow, I will sleep in.

I snuck out to gaze
at the one-star sky
because fog lifted
only slightly,
but still I knew
somewhere in me that my
Somewhere Out There dreams
were also yours.

I snuck out to gaze
at the one-star sky,
and I know you saw it, too.
