It's a place I call home
Miles and miles of fields
Hills so green in the spring
Wild flowers everywhere you go
Reaching for the heavens above
We have a lot of small towns
And yes we have our cities too
Now I am a city girl
Cedar Rapids, I was born and raised
Cruised the Avenue in my teens
Gave my mama a head of grays
They have made movies here
Like Miles from Home
Kevin Cosner called us heaven
In a field of gold
I have been to the field of dreams
Wasnt sure if there were ghosts
I didn't hit the field to poke around
I didn't want to be the only dead one found
Then there is the night cursin'
On the look out for cows
When you find them a sleepin'
You creep up with no sound
Then push them over ... he he!
They call this cow tippin'
But don't ask the cows to tell the tale
They only wine about it!!
Iowa is a peaceful place
The crime is way down
Its a friendly place to make a home
Even for those who are on their own
In the summers we have nasty storms
We are in tornado alley
It lives up to its name ... proudly!
When I was quite small
Twisters danced on our city
Took out the drive inn
It was such a pity
All the rest of the summer
It played "Gone With The Wind"
Then they tore it down
Built us a Kmart
What's up with that?!!
No more popcorn
Or big screen action
All we got was blue light specials
Just wasn't the same
Now I suppose you want to know
Just how did we get our name?
It came from an Indian tribe
Which Lewis and Clark
Met centuries gone by
Now my grandmother was Indian
From, not sure where
But oh boy when she went on the warpath
You had to get out of there!
Growing up in Iowa
Well it is all I know
I love all the four seasons
Even the winter snow
If you find yourself a travelin'
Across the big Midwest
Stop by and see us
Kick your heals up and rest
