I think what I meant
As I walked away from you
Is that I never want to see you again

Only I didn't trust myself
To say it while you
Were still in reach
Lest you see the yearning in my eyes.

I have never in all my life
(and my life has included
a great deal of pain)
Been so hurt by a human being
As I have been by you.

This is a crappy, crappy poem
No images, just lots of words
Screaming to be set free.

You've stolen my voice
And I have no heart left
(Or, if I do, all I can find
are the tattered shreds on the floor)

So goodbye
(accent on the last syllable)
