But I Am Fragile Too by Mainon A SchwartzI'm twice as wide as she is
Maybe if I were half again as small
You would notice that I'm fragile too,
That if I bend much further,
Or stretch myself either way,
Too much will break.
I can't see into her eyes;
The glossy surface of a photograph
reflects more than it ever reveals.
And yet she is the one who is
Magnetic, and draws you from far away
Where I, flesh and fat and tears,
Cannot hide my flaws in two dimensions
(I'm stronger than a photograph, and
I refuse to flatten myself for you.)
But I wonder if you've forgotten
That a statue crumbles more spectacularly
Than a canvas; and for all my length, width,
and height, I am fragile too. 02/26/2002 Posted on 02/26/2002 Copyright © 2024 Mainon A Schwartz

Posted by Meghan Helmich on 07/15/08 at 04:35 PM a very graceful way to address the overbearing feelings of being flawed, specifically in a physical fashion. and i can understand that one. for sure. |
