Morning Glories

by Jane E Pearce

Morning glories
will bloom again
'round the cabin door,
when sunlight coats
the window pane,
and paints the old pine floor.

The old man will return
again,when the skin
no longer shivers,
and a love long lost,
comes to call, while Cupid
sets free his quivers.

The ancient stove coaxed
hot again, will birth
fresh cookies and tea,
while the old gent
hums a song, as he waits
most anxiously.

At last, they are
together again,though
changed, are as they were before,
two lips, two hearts
recall lost love, as morning
glories bloom 'round the cabin door.
