Never

by Richard Vince

When I look into your eyes
I can see clearly that
You will never love me.

When I feel in my memory
The half hearted way
In which you hugged me,
And see the way you smiled,
There is no doubt.
You will never love me.

If I had the money,
I might send you a dozen
Red roses every day,
But I won't, because
You will never love me.

Maybe one day, I will
Talk to you, instead of
Getting your voicemail thing
And be able to say
A small portion of
How I feel whenever I
Say your name, but
You may as well be deaf.
You will never love me.

If I showed you what
Is in my heart and soul,
The components of who I am,
You would just run away.
You will never love me.

Perhaps if I told you
About all the hurt
I've caused over the years,
You might see a different
Side of me, and I would
Cease to be the odd bloke
Who wears a tie and says
Strange and random things.
But I would still be me, and
You will never love me.
