It's Hard to Say Goodby

by Jane E Pearce

A basket full of fall,
overflowing with red and gold,
a shawl of diamond snow,
and never feel the cold,
a necklace of spring,
a ring of summer's glow,
to take along earthly seasons
when it's my time to go.

Deep pockets full of love,
lasting through the years,
a purse of children's laughter
coming after tears,
memories of music
that stirred my heart so-
precious earthly baggage
when it's my time to go.

For what is left behind,
I'll meet God with a sigh,
and wonder at his Heavens,
but it's hard to say goodbye.
