Forgotten

by Lori I Wolfe

She sits by the window
gazing out at the ocean
her hair loose that covers
past her shoulders down her back
colorless now replaced by grey
hanging free and wild
as she was in her younger days
her hands rest upon her lap
wrinkled and rough from year that past
a painter she was of beautys vision
shakes now from fatigue and joints that ache
it's hard to dress in the mornings
an hour sometimes it takes
her children are all grown
with generations of their own
their lives so busy
time slips by before they realize
and then send her a line
she sits by the window
gazing out at the ocean
with her eyes of emerald
still sparking like gems
they've seen a century of color
the eyes of knowledge and wisdom
now eyes of mist that sparkle with sadness
a life that was once filled with love
with in a world that was filled with life
now all rest in the past
she was there for the sick
and the healings of the heart
she was there when one's
world had fallen apart
she gave her soul
to those she touched
she gave her life to
all those she loved so much
her friends and family
all have left for home
now she sits and waits alone
the man who vowed
'til death do us part
now saves a place for her
when earth she departs
she sits by the window
gazing out at the ocean
alone in her time left
a quiet world with an empty heart
she waits for Angels
that fly with in the wind
she looks out over the waters
for the wings that God will send
watching the sun in its beauty
as it sets past the waves
colors of amber, pink and lavenders
in a sky of canvas
she wishes she could capture
one last vision of elegance to be seen
as the wings of her Angels
cradle her up in their arms
she smiles with her last breath
she rises above the pain and loneliness
on her journey back home
where she longs to be..... free
