Clairvoyance

by Jane E Pearce

She could
read my mind
when I got into
sugar or bleach,
and was crayoning
a wall or two
in secret.

I could read
her mind
and knew when
we'd be going
to supper
at Valhalla Farms
for duck salad, and iced tea
on hot afternoons.

Years later, she came
miles through the ethers,
the morning I woke
with "Rock of Ages"
playing in my head.
Hurry! Hurry!
At her bedside holding
her hand, we lovingly
said goodbye.

"Rock of Ages" was my mother's favorite hymn.

Oh...Jane, what beautiful and heartwrenching words you weave!

The steps you have taken in this poem, Jean, from mind to mind, heart to heart! The details you chose to include really bring the poem to life.
