Regarding Greg (Sonnet Form)

by Ronald A Pavellas

Involuntary swelling of my chest
While thinking of the man these words are for:
I'm satisfied; my spirit is at rest;
We share a love profound, and what is more --

He is a gentle lover of the earth,
Of river, forest, fish and Woman too,
But fierce in independence -- give him berth!
No fences 'round him, free as sky is blue.

Dame fortune smiled and placed him in my life;
Strong tears well up, my soul is gratified.
We've learned together, good times and the strife;
Acceptance is our creed, and quiet pride.

Today my son is thirty years of age;
I celebrate his turning of this page.
