lucky

by Rachelle Howe

you had this look
on your face when
you would crawl into my lap;
when you'd bite your lip,
and grin up at me like a child
who had discovered a secret.
you had this look
on your face
when you would tug on my sleeve,
when you'd smile that knowing smile,
and give me my weakness -- your eyes.

you had this look
on your face
when your cheeks would flare in a blush,
when you'd grin and hide in my neck
after i ask you questions, after i asked the heavens

how i got so lucky
