this is what I saw ...

by Ronald A Pavellas

a pair of hawks, one siting on the peak of a decrepit shack

doves and other birds which scattered as I walked along the path

the white-tailed kite that perenially hovers over this hill

a king snake, navigating the huge cracks in the rich, dried earth

big black ants, busy as usual near the top of the hill

a young buck, with velvet-covered antlers

a buckeye tree in full bloom

towering mustard plants forming a canopy over the path

the sun setting toward san francisco

all within the course of an hour's walk on the hill near my home
