eighteen valentines by Mary Ellen Smith
eighteen valentines in all
some of them fancy
glittered and lace.
some of them silly,
a smile on my face.
some of them made
and penned by your hand,
some of them simple
some of them grand.
some came with roses
you know it's the thought
never about anything
ever you bought.
just to remember
how all through the years
there have been many more
smiles ever than tears.
so make me a valentine
once again dear
one with enough love
to last one more year.
and when I get that one
I'll whisper your name
my request for next year
always the same....
and one more.
