Fear

by Lori I Wolfe

I walk into the living room
I see you sitting there
You have your gun in your hand
and you aim it in the air

I stare into its hollow eye
I watch you hold the trigger
Then you asked me without a care
"Can you trust my dear?"

In my mind I scream at you
"No I do not dare!"
but instead I whisper
"Yes my love."
as you pull back with your finger

My heart beats faster
my eyes grow still
I sweat a river but still I am dry
as I watch you squeeze ... thought I died

silence .......

laughter rings in my ears
as I wept a quiet tear
then you cheered "that's my girl ...
you're stronger now, with no fear!"
