A New Days' Dawning

by Adrian Calhoun

Rising as a phoenix,
built from the ashes.
A new days' dawning,
a new mankind emerges.

Yet with all these second chances,
reincarnations, if you will,
what has mankind learned?

Sifting through the ruins,
of those gone before,
their lives so abruptly, violently ended.
Only debris and folklore to remain.

What has changed in two-thousand plus years?
Looking into the past,
we find it much the same as today.

All things which were the fall of mankind,
extreme lust for power and control.
Greed, social status,
sexual perversion, and disease,
are alive and well in modern day.

Through all that mankind has endured,
all mankind has brought upon itself,
the one valuable lesson learned,
is how to be a survivor!

But are we destined to survive,
merely so we can be doomed,
to keep repeating the past?

Are we the age of mankind,
to break the chains, and rewrite history forever?
Or, are we, as those before us,
to keep living blindly ignorant,
until we come to a bloody tragic,
violent end?

Rising as a phoenix,
built from the ashes.
A new days' dawning,
a new mankind emerges.
