Quiet Nights

by Amy Niggel

When you were here
the nights were filled
with laughter
or fighting
or anything
some noise
some sense of disturbance
and it made it all worth it
now,
you left me
I guess I should have known
No one could ever hold a gust of wind
to one place
now the nights are quiet
and lonely
and scary
and I am still fine
you lent me that strength when I needed
it most of all
and I thank you fot that
so now when i hear the parties
I join them
and when I live in those quiet nights
I think on you and am strong again.
