They say that the greatest trick the devil did was tricking us to think he didn't exist..
and how it knew far too well how evil makes humans beings unable to resist.
How sin can enter a mans heart for the love of a girl
and how easily it is to make a life unfurl.
How to shatter a dream or even destroy a heart
and to come in knowing the ending from the start.
The devil knows well this game we all play.
Where we think about the rules but never have the nerve to play.
Where we point the finger and blame someone else
while inside out heart turns to ice and melts.
Sin is a tangible thing in this world today.
Where we don't know the right thing to do or say.
Where we ask for forgiveness but never get any answers.
To go to hell with all those lawyers and strip club dancers.
Will I turn out to be just a black sheep in the flock?
The first one to go to hell on my block?
I never killed anyone, or even gone as far to try
and I've always been able to tell the truth by looking it in the eye.
I keep my word of promise and I don't come up short
but to give into sin is something of a different sort.
See to all sin is something that you commit against God
because God made you out of some clay and sod.
Where he took your rib and made the female race
and there's a little bit of God in everyone's face.
The brash of brilliance. The smile of joy.
The life he gave to every little girl and boy
The God I know is all around us.
It's downtown riding the school bus.
God is my reality and all I see.
I know he's here and he loves me.
It doesn't dwell in a church, more closer to home.
Where we all know that why we're not really alone.
The force of life. The cycle of love.
The greater force that we all think is above.
It's all around us and in our heart and soul
and sometimes we just for a while let it have control.
We do something right that makes it all worthwhile.
We come into this world and maybe even bring a smile.
We lighten up the life of someone we know
and somehow we come in an help their life grow.
We teach them all the things we had to learn the hard way.
You show them your soul and judge them not
since your soul isn't about what you have and haven't got.
Your heart is what matters and it's made of gold
since for that, your heart and soul can never be sold.
Not to sin, not to material objectivity
since it's all part of a blinking eye's fantasy.
We live and love forever or didn't you know?
Since only to you is time going by so slow
The spark of life, the warmth of love
the kiss that could just be that shove
Love yourself for all that you are to be
and never sell yourself short for some fantasy.
You are life simple and true to help your find that clue.
God loves us all and he will be there when we fall..
