Listen to the Music

by Rhodora M Fitzgerald

If you listen to the music
the fine tuned ear will hear,
the precious song of early morn
bursting forth with hope and cheer.

And the truly alerted ear takes note
of the symphony in a gentle snowstorm,
allowing the lullabye of falling flakes
to be the passion that keeps the heart warm.

If you listen to the music
I am sure that you will witness,
the concert of the raging river
as it poetically struggles to express.

And while the untrained eye can only see
the colors of falling autumn leaves,
a well tuned soul observes the weighted sigh
of the ancient tree that grieves.

It's not difficult to hear the music
in a soft and gentle rain,
but to hear a lifeless puddle,
the ear must really strain.

I'm sure you've heard the blue-jays song,
he whistles so loud and clear,
but listen to a whispering rosebud
and you'll forever hold it dear.

It is simple to hear the charming music
that a beautifully arched rainbow will create,
but it takes an attentive ear to notice
the tranquil tones that even death can generate.

If you truly listen for the music
you can't help but hear the sound,
not only in the obvious; but in all things,
if you simply look around.

Eloquent! Great use of symbolism. Broadening the meaning of music to both the eye and the ear.
