Lost At Sea

by Amanda J Cobb

The world spins
between dark and light
as the sun pulses
to the beat of my heart.

Ah, my heart...

Wretched thing.
Lost, it seeks blindly,
only to find itself lost again,
passed from grip to teeth to grip,
never finding peace,
never finding home.
Is there a home for it?
Is there such a thing as a safe harbor
or are all hearts destined to drift at sea,
cold and alone?
Maybe it's just mine,
fated to endlessly face the storms and waves -
no resting ground,
no ease.
If so, I pray you, drown me now...
rather that than the rest of my years
tossed about on a lonely sea.
