Drinking it in

by Amy Niggel

Life falls gently,
all around me,
missing me beautifully
with each perfect drop
never touching me
never making me feel
the way it makes the rest of the world feels,
I don't mind,
I watch as it falls
and creates little puddles
on all the people I love,
wetting them
making them stick to one another,
and so I may never stick
to one person,
I can be part of them all
even if life never falls
on me
I will fall in to it
I am a clutz
and I will fall head first into it
trip and land,
and find myself right in the middle of life,
and I will stick to people
and they will stick to me
and I will be
a part of it all.
Next time it rains,
little drops of life
I will stand outside
with my mouth wide open and drink it all in.
