reasons I never was by Deborah S ReganNonexistence in Alabama
Vast words unwritten
Paranoia unpublished
And if Paris is France,
Birmingham is not America
It hasn't happened in new york city
So why don't you get a real job?
There is no real employment
In nonexistence
My brain refuses to record
My thought-patterns
They make no electro-patterns
My shoes refused to be placed
On non-visible feet
So did my gloves
And my files kept disappearing
From the administrator's office
Nobody recognized a woman from Alabama
My mother wasn't born on record
(Because she speaks in tongues)
And I am her non-born child
My grandfather is only a reddening whisper
Mental patients don't exist
At many family reunions
And father hides from the shadow syndromes
Assuming nonexistant proportions
You see, he never was
I am no alumnus
The faculty washed their chalkboards
Of my former name
I might have been
In Illinois, in Montana
The FBI might have noticed
Many unframed eyes
Blink out; radio towers
Warning planes of their existence
