Fairytale

by Richard Vince

Once upon a time,
There lived a beautiful princess.
She lived in a kingdom
Far, far away, further than
You or I will ever go.

She had always dreamed
Of meeting a handsome prince
From a mysterious, far off land,
Who would whisk her away
To his castle over the sea
In the blink of an eye.

Then one day, she met
A strange man from far away.

He made her feel
Like the royalty she knew she was,
So she crowned him as her prince.

Day and night she wished
That he could rescue her
From the tower from which
There seemed to be only one way down.

But, as it turned out,
She didn't want to leave after all.

And as the fairytale became
A soap opera, her crown
Fell from her head,
And was smashed into
A million fragments.
Suddenly, the leading man
Found his crown too heavy.

Sick of playing the handsome prince,
He rode away on his horse,
Back to the land of reality
In which he hoped the princess
Would one day live.

Wow, very interesting spin on a traditional fairy tale, I very much enjoyed this :-)
