Envy by Deborah S ReganYou are the leather shoes that
cannot point towards me
You are the slim letter in the P.O. Box
that means no thank you
You are the silppery-wet mossy
rock that could never suport me
you are the letterman's jacket
and the cheerleader's uniform
you are the dentist's pride you are blond and fair
you are dimples and pigtails
you are slender, slender
you have never been in the South
you hold hands at the game
you are fun and seductive
your wings collect ice, scouring through
cotton. Your wide apart eyes
set off full lips
your symmmetry amazes
You are the glistening crab-apple tree
slim vapors surround you
I thought I could hold you in my hand
then you swung around
and hardly glanced aside
but to say something like
"I never knew you."
